I don't get paid, but unlike some I'm just intelligent enough not to jump to conclusions because I'm incapable of maintaining my vehicle properly.

Ram05red: I'm not familiar with the 4.7L and have heard they don't have the same plenum gasket blowout issue as the 5.2L/5.9L. But the same principles apply. If oil wasn't changed often enough or poor quality oil was used, the engine will build up gunk in the oil passages and the oil pickup can get gummed up. Your best bet is probably to drop the oil pan and clean up anything in there that needs it and then run a dose of mystery oil or other oil cleaner for 500 to 1000 miles followed by an oil & filter change.
Something else to consider is that the cam and crank bearings, main bearing bed plate, and some other engine components can prevent proper oil flow. Those are much more extensive and expensive repairs, of course, so it's best to eliminate the easier and cheaper things first.
Also, check out this other post of mine about dropping the oil pan on my van and clearing up the oil pressure issue: B3500 Repair. See all the black carbon chunks in the oil pan picture? That's from combustion blowby the bad plenum gasket allowed.

so your telling me the plenum which is between the INTAKE manifold and the block is allowing blow by (combustion byproduct) into the oil?
you do realize that more blowby would get past the rings than would come out the INTAKE side of the heads right?, the plenum leaks oil into the intake causing rough running problems from burning oil and insufficient vacuum.
please show me where on this image of a 5.2 that the blow by would be getting past the (removed) plenum into the oil. . .

If the intake manifold plenum pan gasket is leaking, an additional vacuum source will be created inside of the engine at the location of the pan gasket leakage. Engine combustion blow-by gases, oil vapor, and air from the crankcase filter/breather may be drawn past the leaking pan gasket and into the intake manifold. In most cases when this condition occurs, an engine at idle will create the highest vacuum and lowest amount of engine blow-by.
