Would this gauge work? Assuming i can find a hose to connect up to the transmission.. The low pressure side is 250psi and high 500.

I appreciate your help so much guys, I don't mind tackling most projects head on but trans trouble makes me apprehensive. I found good instructions on checking pressures so hopefully i can report back Friday night with pressures before and after fluid & filter change. I hope to get out all 11 qts instead of just the pan.

Yeah it will work fine, but do remember the same servo is applied in Man 1 position....If you get your speed around 10-15 mph and decelerate place gear selector in Man 1 if the the servo is good , it will have a gear down effect and this would rule out a problem in the rear servo/ band/strut area...If there is not a gear down effect then it would be worth the pressure check...

There is a definite engine braking when in Man 1. So I shouldn't even bother with the pressure checks?

What you have found out is that the low/reverse band is not the problem, so now attention has to be given to the other two circuits that are applied in reverse, you can take a pressure check now to verify, but if you are having any difficulty shifting from 2 to 3rd, then the problem is in the front clutch assembly.....if you take a pressure test and pressure is well under 50 psi, then you have verified that the problem is in the front clutch seals( while reverse is not working).....If pressure is high enough to apply the front clutch set then all that is left is the direct clutch set in the OD housing..It would be apparent that the apply spring is weak or broken and will not apply the clutch set......

Understood. It is indecisive on whether to stay in 2nd or swap to 3rd, and sometimes goes back and forth with a little flare in RPM's. Once in gear I don't feel slippage, but this is the wife's daily driver so I only get behind the wheel once in a while.

Now that you have concluded that the problem is in the front clutch assembly , i would now remove the pan and it is probable that you will find a clean transmission...If you do, then all that will need to be replaced is the seals in the front drum... I have actually heard that Chrysler admitted to improper sized seals that were installed at the factory.....

Does replacing the seals in the front drum require removing the transmission?

Unfortunately it does....however trans only has to be partially disassembled......the drum in question is right behind the pump....

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. I will pull the pan Friday after work. It should warm up to a couple degrees above freezing that day so that will be good compared to this last week.
