Alright. I went under and put the arm in the hole of the range selector. I turned the car on, put it in neutral, and pulled the shifter to 2WD. The shifter suddenly became loose again so I assumed it popped back out but when I put it in drive I moved so I guess I'm good to go.

Now, last question: Is there any harm in driving around like this? I need to travel this weekend but am concerned. I'll be fine until I need to use 4WD right?

@ Hydrashocker- in mine, from front to rear it goes: 4 Lo Lock, Neutral, 2WD, 4 Hi Lock

you should be good to go as long as you have it in 2wd you can drive it w/o the rod connected, you just wont have the ability to shift into 4wd

Yes there shouldn't be any issues, doesn't mean the sifter can't move on the T-case though. Be very careful and fix it ASAP. And ensure you are not in 4X4 by turning sharp on dry asphalt and seeing if the front end hops. If it hops you are in 4X4, if no hop then you are in 2WD.
