Strange starting problem
1998 durango, 5.2 v8, automatic and 4 wheel drive. Its runs great and starts good except if i let it set for a couple hours then it won't start the first time, The strange thing is if I turn off key and turn right back on it starts first turn. Ive replaced the hall pick up and crank sensor. I did noticed today that the fuel hose that connects the fuel neck to gas tank is split and will replace tomorrow. Any ideas would be appricated. Thanks

I'll give it a try, too. Mine's been doing pretty much the same thing.
If I get in when the truck's cold I can crank and crank and it won't start. But if I stop cranking for just half a second and then try again, it fires right up the instant I turn the key.
Good call, shrp. That makes perfect sense.

Well I tryed today leaving key in on position for 4 seconds the same thing would not start on first try. After it starts it will restart all day except if I let it set for over 2 hours. But strange thing is if I start it on second try after setting for 2 hours and park in garage the next morning it will start right up. Gas cap is not holding pressure so I just changes it. ???

You need to turn the key on and off a couple times the fuel pump runs about two sec. then quits.
Install a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail start the eng. check the pressure turn off the eng. the gauge should hold pressure if not then sharp is correct.
Some people install a check valve in the fuel line because the anti drain valve is in the fuel pump in the tank

I was going to ck pressure but my adapter that screws onto the fuel rail is two short so I need to try and find one. I also noticed today when I removed gas cap I didn't notice the whissing sound you should get when you remove cap. I don't know if that is a problem but on my honda car you have to make sure you have a tite seal when you put on cap. Thanks everyone I love this site
