Default Rear End Noise Help!!!

I have a 98 durango 4x4 with a noise that im not sure if its my driveshaft or my rear end. I've checked my fluids in my rear end and thats fine. The noise is loud when i hit the gas and when i let off its not as loud. Can you tell me what it is? Thanks!

Does it do it in neutral and drive? Does it do it when going straight or during turns? More details...

Its coming from the rear of the truck, i dont know how to describe the noise. Its like a whining but not high pitched.

The truck has to be moving for it to make the noise. So it does NOT do it in Neutral. It doesn't matter whether its going straight or turning, it still does it. You hear it more when my foot is ON the gas than when its just coasting.

Do you just have open gearing, or is there a LSD?

If it does it when it's coasting in neutral and when you're accelerating in drive, makes me believe something to do with transmission back.

I have the same issue with the same year truck... i have replaced the u-joints, all the bearings and seals in the rear, and put new fluid with the friction modifier stuff added for the limited slip... still have the noise.. i also when i had the rear cover off i inspected the gears and cant see any missing parts and no metal shaving so, not sure what it is.. if you figure it out let me know...

forgot to add when i did get the fresh oil in there it did seem to quiet down a bit so, my thinking is maybe it needs time to work its way around?? or maybe the cold has something to do with it?? when i drained the old oil is was so thin it was almost like water
