Exclamation P0740

My 2001 Dodge Durango has set a P0740 code, no noticable problems other than when driving at 55 to 60 mph the engine is around 2000 rpm's fluid is full but slightly dirty. Any suggestions?

It doesn't die when stopping if that is what you are meaning about locking out, i can turn my od off and the rpm will change when cruising.

locked out means your truck wont shift into OD, if pressing the button changes the rpms then its most likely not your problem, how is your fluid level? check it with the trans warm(and engine running), the trans in nuetral on a level ground, trans should be warm after driving 12-15 miles,\

and the 0700 in the odometer window is the pcms way of saying that tcm has a stored code, however you cannot read all tcm codes through the odometer window

have you had the trans serviced recently?(fluid and filter change) i think they used the wrong fluid, you need to purge (DO NOT FLUSH) the system and get the correct ATF +4 in it, that is definitely part of your problem, the fluid should be red/pink in color NOT ORANGE

No I have only owned the vehicle for about 6 months now and I don't know when the trans was serviced last, but it looks like the fluid is just old and broke down what type of fluid should be in there? Just regular ATF or is there a specific type.
