Default Could use some HELP with my 98 Durango

Last week it stalled for the first time but started right up after 10 minutes like so many stories that i have read about ( Real cool weather). Now the weird thing, now my Gas gauge doesn't work. So i check for spark and found no spark and ended up changing the Distributor cap and rotor ( old ones looked good) turn the key and look at my gas gauge and it was working tried to start it and it fired right up. Took it around the block a couple of times and it ran good, start to go to the store turn the corner and it stalled. Look at the gas gauge and it wasn't working again. Now no spark again and it won't start, cranks over just wont fire. I know its sound crazy put i think it really has something todo with the gas gauge. I am openly to any ideas you all can give me to try. Also the Odometer blinks when the gas gauge doesn't work.

it could be as simple as a bad relay for the fuel pump (the gas gauge is PART OF the fuel pump), or it could be a bad fuel pump, try swapping the relay in the PDC first

you say the odometer blinks when the gauge doesn't work? only thing those have in common to function correctly is the CCD bus which usually leads to the PCM unless all your gauges go out at the same time then it might be a wiring issue. I had random stalling problems before too and what fixed it was hitting the PCM with a soft hammer to make things inside connect again. I do know if you pull out the fuel pump relay (same thing as having a bad relay) it will throw a code and light the MIL lamp. is your check engine light on?

bad relay for the fuel pump is it in the fuel tank? Do you know where i should look for it. ...I did swap the fuses in the PDC already with no help but will try it again... No engine light on..Thanks for your replys

the fuel pump relay is located under the hood in a black box behind the battery, pull the top off that box and look at the label on the other side (i think the label is inverted) a relay is one of those small black boxes, I'd try swapping it out with another relay in there like your fog light one and seeing if that fixes the problem. the relays just pull straight up and out with effort.

Tried and nothing changed. just dont know what to try next, thinking it has to be the fuel pump in the gas tank but dont know if i am what to that task of pulling out the gas tank and trying it myself.. I miss the days of working on cars that were simple and without computers and sensors every 6 inches.

very true about the newer cars, the 98 D is still pretty simple aside of the CCD bus. the fuel pump is an expensive part to replace, pulling the fuel tank is pretty easy if you can disconnect all the lines and hoses, then it's just 2 brackets holding the whole thing up. a service manual would help you out with this task greatly if you had access to one, usually dealerships will let you look at the manuals inside but won't let you take them home.

After it stalls or just won't start, turn the key off and back on and listen if the fuel pump primes before you crank the engine. If so then I would think the pump is fine and start looking into the bigger issue of having no spark like you mentioned above.

also on a side note: when you crank the engine and it won't start, spray some starting fluid in the intake and see if it starts then, if it does then it's a fuel pump/line problem. If it still does not start then I'd completely rule out the fuel system and start looking into your spark plug wires, igition coil wire and the ignition coil itself and start tracing it back from there.

Update: Did check the fuels lines and also spray some starting fluid in the intake and nothing, check spark plug wires, coil, coil wire.
Ended up taking to Dodge and it turned out to be the computer, now back on the road and so far 100 miles and seems like everything is back to normal.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and i hope i can repay someone else for your efforts.
