Question '01 durango suspension/tire advice

Hi I'm new to this forum so im not quite sure how to ask this but anyway, I want to make my 2001 5.9 durango more capable for off-roading. Im pretty pressed on cash and it needs to stay pretty cheap. I was looking at putting around a 3 inch lift on it and some mud tires. Does anyone know of any cheap lift kits i could get? and does anyone have suggestions for tires?

Thanks

I have nothing for lift kits but a good set of Goodyear Wranglers have a nice aggressive tread pattern and are also an A/T tire. Then again I am not much of an off roader but my brother in law has a 2003 wrangler with a CAI 4 wheel lockers and a lift on it and he runs with Goodyear Wranglers as well.

you wont be getting 3inches in what i consider cheap

you can get 2inches of lift for like $80 by cranking the torsion bars and putting lift shackles in the rear

and the favorite tire for off-roading is the bfg all-terrains

Does doing that kind of lift help with off roading? or is it mainly for appearance?

well it gives you more body clearance but your axles will still always be in the way, thats why you get bigger tires. 35" tires still only gives you 17.5" of axle clearance.

hes correct, the only gain you get from any lift is body clearance, and the ability to put taller tires on the truck, these tires are what increase your actual ground clearance
