My fathers 01 Durango AWD is bottoming out like a banshee. It hits HARD! New shocks front and rear did nothing. Any ideas? Cant find leaf springs at autozone or oreillys

where is it bottoming out? front or rear? you have torsion bars in the front and leaf packs in the rear, im sure that someone can measure from the fender to the ground for you, that should be able to tell you if yours is sitting too low (would indicate worn springs)

It bottoms out in the back. Its a well taken care of vehicle. One owner and never used for pulling or mudding. It just had new shocks put on yesterday. It had new 265 tires put on last year. looked at the leaf springs and they def arent as curves as mine on the 01 Ram I have but ??

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas. I can take a pic underneath if that helps.

If the front end settled or he had it aligned they could have dropped the front height and now the front hits the bump stops.

On the rear, what about a broken spring? Also look at the bump stops for signs of wear.

well i have never heard of the front end settling but i will check the springs and see if they are toast. its nuts how it hits so damn hard on pretty small dips. I thought it was because he put some sissy shocks on it bu no go with that.

thanks for the info. ill check the durango out and post any other questions

thanks again

Did you get the correct shocks for your D? I know that sounds dumb, but check out the load capacity of the new shocks. If the new shocks are good, I'm leaning towards worn leaf sprigs.

I agree with broke spring, but he should be able to look at the vehicle and tell. usually they lean to the broken side. Also if the shocks bolts aren't tight, it will cause a hell of a ratcket too.

Also remember, check how close the bump stops on the front end are to the control arms and take pictures.
