Default my new dilemma: power windows!

hello again all...
so driving around with the family a few days ago and came to realize that windows won't work unless they're opened/closed from the main (driver's) switches. it's as if i have the window lock switch on. besides fuses and such is there anything else that i might look at? thanks again everyone!

Did you disengage the master window control switch? You can remove the whole master switch with a flathead screwdriver and see if you can clean the contacts. IIRC, there's a write up in the DIY section.

My window lock switch failed and the windows could only be operated from the drivers door. Tried cleaning the contacts, didn't work. What I did was put a jumper between the big yellow wire and the big brown wire. Now the window controls work on all the doors as if they are unlocked all the time.

Cool. Where can I find these wires and pray tell what's a jumper?

The wires are on the main control on the drivers door. Gently pull the control panel out of the door and you should see two plugs, one has a big yellow wire and the other has a big brown/tan wire, they are larger than the other wires. Use a piece of wire about 3 inches long and use red or blue splicers (pictured below) to create a jumper wire between the yellow and brown wires. This will bypass the window lock button supplying power to the other 3 windows.

If it will help I will take some photos when my wife gets home from work to better explain how it's done.

Yeah, it sounds to me like the master switch needs a cleaning.

For further reference, here is the link to cleaning the master window switch Dan was referring to:

Here are the pictures

Just splice the one end of the jumper into the brown wire and the other end into the yellow wire.

I have this problem with my front passenger window. Im pretty sure its just a bad switch because sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't.
