Air Intake Mods
I'm still not convinced hydra, because based on srch4me's post right before you with his 1998 5.2, that's the passenger side and that definitely looks like a breather hose to me! At least, I've never seen a PCV valve on these rigs that looks like that.
Unless that is not a '98 5.2, it looks to me like that's a breather hose on the passenger side, at least to me it does...

ill post pictures of my 5.2 a little bit later with both sides but i looked at my engine and it looks like hydra is right... the picture i previously posted wasn't my engine i just posted it to show the back of the airhat..
Okay that makes more sense then srch. Ive never actually worked on a pre 2000 engine so I was unaware they made a change on the valve covers.
I completely believe you but I would really like those pictures just for my reference.

srch's motor is an exact replica of my old 5.9L as seen in his picture top and mine bottom. You can clearly see the hose on the opposite sides. Besides, in the service manual page 25 - 15 of the 1998 Durango shows a picture of it.

Pulls right out of the valve cover and inputs directly into the intake manifold (PCV).

My 1998 Durango 5.9L was the exact same way. We had a long thread about this subject many moons ago. Anyway, I searched for the thread but gave up. But trust me, that's the way it was.
Here's my old 1998 5.9L and you can see the breather on the drivers side going into the rear of the air hat. I even went to the dealer and even bought a new grommet, breather, and pre-formed hose (all for the drivers side "breather") and it was replaced flawlessly. If it were to go into the other side it would have to have a slight bend in the middle and it would not be as long.

Good to know hydra! I was completely unaware of this and really didn't think that they really would do such a weird change like swapping the PCV valve over to the other side but indeed that is the case!
Thanks for the clarification and my appologies for my ignorance. LOL

I agree, it was kind of a heated debate. I wish I could have found that, but like I said I gave up....LOL
It really is hard to understand WHY they would do some of the stupid things (like this swap) but we run across things like this here and there. It's kinda like, why do they have like 4 different lower ball joints, or why they went to an in line radiator cap. It's all hard to get your head around on why these engineers do what they do.......LOL
It's all good, I always question the truth and there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, many of good conversations and great ideas have come out of threads like these.
