I'm sure master tech will chime in with some info soon, I don't know where to turn next, but most likely it's a sensor or wiring issue.

We also changed the valve bodies in it and it does the same thing.... now what?

The strange thing is that the old tranny was just slipping through gears but now this news one shifts fine until we stop then it stays in 1st gear.

It's pretty simple for the most part, you will need to get a hold of a torque wrench though.
