They both exchange information through the CCD bus which is the only data bus in the entire vehicle, it's just a 2 wire twisted pair multiplexed bus, like ethernet in a way and you need a DAC to decode any information on it.

When I had my ABS module removed from the vehicle I could drive it but the odometer was not counting and the speedometer was at 0. Now the trans also acted funny when slowing down, in fact sometimes would stall the truck unless the throttle was touched when coming to a stop. Hope this answer some questions.

in the newer models with 4 wheel abs the abc module controls the speedo. in the rwd ams systems the speedo uses a speed sensor that rides on the output shaft of the tcase.

the abs module being unpluged may have put the trans in limp mode causing your funny shifting and stalling issue. i believe if you have traction control or auto 4x4 its also controlled by the abs module. but dont quote me on that because i havent dealt with in the gen 1s i know the gen 2 and 3 are deffently run that way so id assume its the same.

No such thing as traction control or auto 4x4 in the gen 1s

The programmer reads the vin off the computer and cannot be swapped between vehicles. It only sees the new vin number and locks out so that you can not program multiple vehicles

You can also swap a 5.2L PCM from the match years I just posted into a 5.9L and it's going to run, just not to its full potential. You can swap a 5.9L PCM (again using the match years I provided) into a 5.2L, with a boast of more performance (but haven't had anyone test this theory yet).

A 4.7L must be swapped with its exact match because of the 16 and 32 bit systems.

Anyway, I have seen this done a few times as the VIN doesn’t have to match. She should fire. The instrument cluster holds the mileage not the PCM. The reason for it to be flashed is the 5.2L and 5.9L are the same PCM only with a little difference in flash. There are other differences from what I've seen in the earlier years to later years 5.9L (as indicated above in the years) so the newer and later years are not swappable without a flash, in fact I would think they are completely different PCM's.

Now I have everyone confussed, better go to work now........

Computer Will not work if I get 99 5.7 and put it in a 98 5.2??

5.7? Did you mean 5.9? Provided both had similar options (mainly security) the 5.9 99 PCM should work in the 5.2 98.

Yes it's a 99 dodge ram 1500 5.9 my friends has one for parts and told me if I need the computer off of it to take it but mine is a 98 Dodge ram 1500 5.2 just want to make sure it will work with if k ot no point in swapping and gonna run my truck, it's just turning off on me while running and had the battery, and alternator and the 2 came back to me as good so next they told me it could be the voltage regulator that's in the computer so I wanted to try it and see what happens but only if it's not gonna be bad for my truck??

You need to go check the ram section then. Those years would work with Durangos but I'm not sure about the Ram.
