Smile Turbo

I know this question is a bit off topic here but, I have been doing a little research on the STS rear mount turbos for my Durango. The kit sells for around $2000. Anyone know anything about them? Would it be worth paying that much for the kit? They say the kit out of the box could produce up to 170 horse and the same in torque with around 15 psi of boost. That would put me well over the 400 horse mark! Talk about fun!

I have only seen 1 Durango install that but don't remember the out come, well I don't think he ever came back to let us know? Do a google search and you sould find it, I think the member had it on a 5.9L engine.

the thought also occurred to me that idk if the stock internals would hold up to 15psi of boost. . .

Ya, I think your right. We are talking a long time ago we were discusing that but I think the member used 7-9 psi but again, that was a long time ago.

You have to take into consideration that a turbocharger isn't as simple as plug and play. You have to get a boost controller and time it just right and will likely have to beef up your fuel injectors. You will also likely run into issues with the PCM and have to end up beefing that up too, as I installed a stroker and ended up needing to beef it up due to the added torque and horsepower.

Your best bet is going to be do your research before jumping in because you have to be dedicated when adding a turbo. I'd like to see it though in the end and how it ends up being if you go that route. Definitely a fun project IMHO!

A turbo on a gas motor pretty much means no towing. The EGTs will get way too high and cause all kinds of problems.

After I have done a little more research, I found that these turbos more realisticly produce 5 to 9 pounds of boost out of the box. I have been told my 5.9 would hold up to around 9 pounds of boost without any internal upgrades with simple injector upgrades a possibility. I think Im gonna do it as soon as I can save up the money for it. Once I start it, I will post pictures and videos. It should be a fun build and a fun drive.
