2003 Durango Stereo Installation issues
I'm reaching out to all you durango/stereo experts. I have a 2003 Dodge Durango SLT. I'm installing an aftermarket Clarion NZ500. It came with the HU and the dodge harness required for hookup. I connected all the wires coming from the HU and connected them to the new harness. I connected all the harnesses and turned on the unit. It powers on but has no sound at all. The HU has it completely muted and will produce no sound what so ever. The unit itself is not muted but a little red picture flashes in the right corner of the monitor. It looks like a cell or hand radio with a sound symbol with an X through it. This will no go away no matter what I do. I then turned to my manual and started relooking my wire connections. First thing that stood out to me was the phone interupt or whatever you call it wire. It says if it reads a ground or negative connection it will mute the HU. So I looked and the phone interupt(brown wire) from the clarion is connected to the mute (brown) wire on the harness adaptor. When that harness is connected to the harness coming from the Durango I noticed on the durango side it is a purple/yellow wire. I have no idea what this wire is for. I have heard it is a OBD wire, ground amp wire, etc...So I'm wondering if this wire connection I have is causing the problem, and if it is what the heck would be the fix to still be able to connect to phone calls and have the radio stop playing. Next is I hooked up all new 4 6 1/2 kickers and just the speakers wires in place and didnt bypass the OEM amp if I even have one. I have two tens and an Amp in the rear that will just run the 10's and routed straight to the HU. So going back to my wiring I now have the blue wire(Amp turn on) coming from the Clarion HU connected to the blue wire on the adaptor harness and also the blue remote coming from my amp in the back. I connected all 3 of these together. I have read that this may be an issue as someone mentioned about me using the Clarion blue/white (Power antenna) wire and connected my amp remote blue wires to it. Doesn't make sense to me but just wonder if anyone has any inputs on that as well. Sorry for such a long write-up but wanted to explain clearly what was going on and how my wiring was and my intentions on setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!
I would say start with the basics. I have aftermarket stereo too and it sounds like it could be initial settings on the stereo head unit. Start over with them and go from there. To start with remove the mute/brown wire and see what happens. Your wiring diagram with the stereo should set you in the right direction but double and triple check everything. If all else fails take the Clarion out reinstall the Factory stereo get it working and start over again. I would tend to venture that the error is most likely either wiring or stereo head unit settings. Trust me it took me about thee-four times to get my stereo connected right. Works like a champ now though.
I will try that trouble shooting technique and see what happens. I'm in the military and away a few days so will check it out when I return. Sorry for the long paragraph....
One thing I also forgot to mention was all the blue remote wires I have joined together seem to go to nothing. Where the blue goes into my harness coming from the Durango doesn't have any wire at all on the input side. Is this a problem as well? Also does anybody know what the purple/yellow wire on the dodge harness is for?

Do you have the Infinity Premium Stereo in the truck? Also, as the other said, it's tough for me to read through the block of text, but did you try taking the output from the back of the Aftermarket stereo and plug the speaker output into a speaker to check, rather than using the factory wire in the doors for speaker connection?
It sounds to me like your trying to install an aftermarket stereo on lines that are already powered with the factory Infinity amp. If you do not bypass the amp, you'll need to run new speaker wire to each door.
Additionally, search through the forum and find the schematic for the factory wiring harness and see if you can wire up the "Pre-Amp Output's" from the aftermarket radio into the infinity amp.
All of this is a shot in the dark, but for 100% accuracy, use a volt/ohm meter on each connection. You'll eventually find the point of failure.

Well I did the trouble shooting and sure enough it's my phone interupt wire. When I disconnect the brown wire everything works perfectly with good sound. My question now is what can I connect the phone interupt wire to so I can use the feature? As I said before it connected to the violet/yellow wire on the factory harness.
