Default ABS and Brake light

Hi Folks,

I've been reading the posts regarding the ABS and Brake lights, but I too am curious as everyone has the same light reading with varying problems. I have an 01 Durango SLT+ with a 4.7L. I've noticed in the last little while that my ABS and Brake light come on...sometimes it stays and when I turn her off then restart her the lights go off (not all the time though). I've also noticed that my brakes aren't responding like they should, I'm having to pump my brake pedal to build up enough pressure to stop. Before I pump the brakes, I can put my foot to the floor and she will still keep moving forward until I pump the brake more until she won't move.

Would this be an ABS controller problem/ Sensor issues or possibly both?

Thanks

Mewfie

check yourfluid level, it sounds to me like you have a slow leak or air in the system, either way i would bleed the system.

Checked the brake fluid, ABS fuse and such and all looks good. I guess it would be best to bring it to a mechanic instead of trying to find an air leak. The brakes work none the less, but the ABS doesn't...

It sounds to me like either a brake booster problem or a master cylinder. Nevertheless, I'd recommend taking it to a mechanic or someone who works with braise because it you could cause way more damage trying to fix something yourself than is already done to the brakes.

If you take it to a mechanic however, have him try out the master cylinder and the brake booster first.
