Default Speedometer way off

I was driving the other day and noticed that while my speedometer read 70, I was being passed by quite a few people. I fired up the GPS and while my truck read 70, my GPS read 60. I have been comparing my GPS speed and my Durango speedometer, and it seems that the speedometer is way off. I am pretty sure it's the GPS thats right since everywhere I go, my speed reading, the speed limit and people passing me just doesn't seem right. So, how would I go about fixing this? I seem to be off 10mph or so, I am assuming that my mileage counter is also off, thus my mpg calculations are off, etc.....

you put different than stock sized tires on the truck didnt you? you probably just need to have the correct tire size programmed into the computer, a superchips handheld will do it, or you can take it to a shop and some of them can do it for you.

Yep shrp nailed it. IIRC you said you have 35" tires on it before and that's about right to have a 10mph off on the speedometer. Make sure to get this fixe soon because you're puting more miles on the odometer than you're actually driving!

I thought this was the opposite.

With a bigger tire, your actually reading LESS than what you are driving. For instance, I just put 265/70/16 on my truck, and it now reads 60MPH when my GPS shows 66 MPH.

Wouldn't his speedometer read a lower rate of speed with bigger tires, putting less mileage on his D?

So did he set the PCM to accrue the 35" tires revolutions and then went back to smaller tires therefore now he is reading fast? How did he change the parameters?

Thanks all. I figured the tires did it, but wasn't sure how to correct the problem. To clear a little confusion up, I had 35's and went down to 33's. The gps is showing me going slower than speedometer. Will have to invest in a superchip module now.
