High Pressure Pwr Steering Pump Hose ????
Ok, so I just bought a '01 Durango, 2WD, 4.7L and I've started to go through it to see what I missed before I bought it. I found that the power steering hose, (the high pressure one I believe), was leaking right where it screws into the pump. I tugged on the hose, it moved inside the nut like it wasn't tight. Anyway, went to tighten the hose thinking this was an easy fix, but the fitting is snug. Could there be an O ring missing, or a "crush" collar that forces a seal between the hose and pump fitting. The hose itself looks fine, and the pump isn't whining, just leaking. Anyway thanks in advance for any words of advice.
The '03 lines have O-rings on them, not sure about the 01. Replacement lines are reasonably inexpensive and it's a quick job. Make sure you bleed the air out after changing them by SLOWLY turning the wheel stop to stop with the engine idleing. Don't let your pump run out of fluid while doing this.
Be careful with the pressure sensor that screws into the high pressure line, it's easy to snap off when you're working on it. Since you have a fluid leak now, clean the wiring harness up really well as fluid can leak into the harness and make it's way down to the O-2 sensor connection causing other problems.
