Default starter

I just replaced the cable from my battery to my starter in a 99 durango and been driving it a couple of days. This morning when I tried starting it the starter continued turning even after removing the key from the ignition. Any idea why, do I need to replace my starter or is there any other possible cause I should look at first. Appreciate any help.

Is it the typical clicking of a bad starter or do you hear it trying to crank? Also, check the relay in the PDC and make sure that's clicking and no going bad.

Correct, the PDC (Power Distribution Center) is the black box that contains all the main fuses and relays engine related that's just behind the battery. However, if it's cranking it's not the starter and shouldn't be a relay problem. Check the relay for the Fuel Pump and and Shutoff because these are typically the first signs of a non-start.

Also, are you sure your battery is charged up? I'd say this is the first thing I would have checked but you never know...

widow it sounds to me like he tries cranking it to start and can shut the engine off and pull the key out and stand next to the truck, key in hand, ignition off and still hear the starter cranking, i could be mistaken, but if thats the case id pull the starter relay and if that stops it then replace the relay.

Sounds like the ignition switch or starter.
