Unhappy Loss of steering after Pump Replacement

Hi, I just replaced the steering pump a couple of days ago. I bled the fluid and when I went to test drive it out of my driveway, I lose steering assistance when I slowed down and If I slowed down too much, it would stall. I also hear a kinda quiet whining sound when I turn the wheels like there is a little tiny bit of air in the system but the fluid levels are full. The gear box is also brand new. Any help???

when you change a power steering pump you need to bleed the system, w/ the front end of the truck in the air cycle the steering wheel lock to lock w/ the engine running to push fluid thru the system and air out, my money is on you missed this step and have some air in the system.

yeah I had the truck on the ground... the booklet that came with the new part said to bleed it one way and my Haynes manual said to do it another way... so I was confused... thanks, I'll try that in the morning

jacking it up didn't help... checked flow in both lines... I've gotten faulty parts from this place before so I went ahead and got another one... if it does the same thing, I'm gonna check the tension on the belt
