Yeah i ended up getting frustrated with it all so my dad offered to pay for a shop to do it so i found a shop to do it for 60 bucks.

Also on a side note last night when i went to drain the coolant i popped the upper radiator line cap off and it spewed out a bunch of air. this noted today when idrove it to the shop about 9 miles of driving it did not over heat and was acting completely normal.

I was gonna pass on the flush but my dad said might as well do it anyways just because it hasn't been done ever.

I'm hoping all my problems are solved. hoping

A gush of air huh, well I think you found your problem. Air in the system will overheat the system.

Well hydra i know that pressure builds up underneath that cap so i assumed it was just pressure from the system not cooling down fully. but now that I'm "bamboozled" at the fact shes acting normal i'm having to guess that had something to do with it.

Whats the term an air lock? guess i had one of those.

+1 SamnBensdad. Which was probably needed but when we changed the t stat last month we did burp it. Than all of the sudden it started acting up. it was weird but i hope its behind me.

Unless Hydra or someone might have an idea. the night before she started overheating it was raining and hot out so i had the a/c on. anyone think this might have triggered somethin? not sure what but possibly something?

If that fixes it, I'd say you just didn't burp it completely the first time.

Doubtful that the AC would have done anything. Hopefully it was just air still trapped in the system, but keep a close eye on it. A leaking head gasket will also allow air into the system over time.

it sometimes takes a while to get all the air out of the system, since it is possible that the heater core drained too and it got air in it... so the air all began circulating arround... but a radiator flush is never a bad idea...

Yeah, I'm hoping it was just air. which kind of makes sense? when we installed the T stat i didn't know about burping the coolant system. my dad did however he knew to leak the air out with the bleeder valve.

I'm surprised sometimes at what he knows about cars lol he's not a mechanic he's a machinist and has always been. i think when my family came here in the early 90's he worked as a mechanic. lol sorry off topic there!

srch4me, yeah i ended up having a shop flush it since my dad offered to pay and they did bleed the air out but idk if they did it fully. either way if a problem does occur again hopefully not but than i can just burp the system myself.

does the upper radiator hose cap have to be off in order to burp the system? or can you just loosen up the bleeder valve and let the air escape?

if you start w/ the system cold you could have the cap off, but i believe the technically correct way to do it is just use the bleeder valve, not even having it off, just loose
