I have a '99 with only 63,500 miles. Check engine light code: P0720. Can I fix it myself? Rear wheel sensor mounted on rear differential housing? Please advise me.

Check engine code: P0720. Output speed sensor. Can I fix it myself? Is it connected to the rear diff? Have been getting irregular idle from time to time. Please advise me. Maybe dirty connector?

 

replace the output speed sensor on the transmission, its an easy swap and a $20 (about) sensor, should take longer to drive to the store and pick it up than it does to change (5 min MAX to change)

also have a rag ready a little bit of trans fluid will likely drip out, not enough to catch or affect the fluid level, but enough that you will want a rag handy

 

Thank you shrpshtr325. The part is $17.00 Can you tell me where on the x-mission the sensor is located? From crawling underneath. Also, I added about a pint of fluid to bring things to normal. Don't think that was the problem.

 

the sensor is on the drivers side of the transmission tailshaft, on my old truck it was the only sensor under there so you cant miss it.
