Default Oil pressure gauge issue

I'm back with another question. I've noticed over the past few days while driving the Durango, the "check gauges" light on the dash comes on, at first I didn't notice anything different when that light came on, but noticed when it comes on the oil gauge drops to 0, then goes back to normal. This happens sporadically. Is this cause for concern or? Thanks for the help. Still haven't gotten around to addressing the window issue, the weather has been garbage of late.

ummmm you left out some critical information if you want us to share known solutions, which engine do you have in your truck? 4.7 or 5.9? either way its not good

Yeah... The check gauges light is usually illuminated to let you know you have low oil pressure. First I'm inclined to ask how long it has been since your last oil filter change because it could be something stupid like a clogged filter. Also, if your filter is fine, I'd probably replace the oil pressure sending unit because it's cheap and easy to replace.

Like shrp said though, it is crucial for us to know which engine you have because they use 2 different sending units and can be 2 completely different problems.

My bad. It's a 2001 Durango SLT Sport, I believe it's the 318. I'll double check today and let you know. Took my sister to work this morning and it never came on. And I JUST got it, haven't really driven it much since I have no idea when the oil was last changed. I get paid this weekend and I'll do an oil change. The weather has been awful so I haven't been able to do much with it so I've been driving my Accord.

If it is a 2001 it either has the 5.9 (360) or the 4.7 (287). If you think it has the 318, more than likely it has the 360 because they share the same block and look very similar to the naked eye.

That is what I would do, is change its oil and keep an eye on it. If it goes away and never comes back, if it comes back very intermittently, just make it a habit to keep an eye at the oil pressure gauge and make sure you're not losing pressure.

Replace the PVC valve and check the oil level.

Quick update, it's a 4.7 liter. I've deiven it a few times today with no issues whatsoever. Seems plans have changed, after putting about 1,000 dollars worth of stereo equipment in it, the wife wants to start driving it again.

I was planning on driving my Accord, the wife told me it's making a noise, thought it was the power steering pump, the reservoir looked like it was almost empty, topped it off and the noise was still there, took the belt off to see if it was the pump, nope! Sounds like it may have some serious rod knock, perfect! I'll have to take a look at it and PRAY that it's not a rod or something internal. The wife's old Accord made a similar noise when her crank pulley came loose. FML!
