Any time work is done on one side of the suspension, it should also be done to the other. Make sure they are replacing passenger side components as well as driver side. You don't want to be new and tight on one side and loose on the other.

Also...
When they replace components like ball joints they are going to use cheap parts. If it were me, I would chat with the shop manager to see if I could pay the difference to use Moog. Just a thought...

You my friend, are lucky. Normally when a car is 10+ years old, they total after $2000 worth of damages by rule of thumb. Hopefully they get you all fixed up and as good as new. These Rango's can take a beating. We had one and hit a deer with it two days after getting it...then two weeks later, after repairing the front end, my father slid in our driveway and ruined it against my Ford....my ford had a scratch about the size of a golf ball. Some guy bought it, fixed it, and to my knowledge, is still driving it.

Uhhh... in a word... NO.

To total a vehicle, it is purely based on factors including current value, mileage and condition. Age is much less of a factor. In fact, KBB is off by $1000-2000 now in on the short side so even that can't be used as an accurate valuation.

With no bank loans on new cars, leasing drying up 24-36 months ago, and coupled with the foolish C4C program, used car values have skyrocketed across the board.

Then again, what do I know about insurance?

I don't know how insurance works in the good ol' (re: corrupt) USA... But here in Reality... Auto insurance companies do what they call "market value assesment" when trying to decide whether or not to fix a damaged vehicle.

They will go online to the used car trader, go around to used car lots, call up local dealerships... Etc... They will try to locate a vehicle in similar condition, mileage, year, options, etc...

Then they use that to base what the vehicle is worth.

So if they can buy a used Durango for say... $7000, and the damage was only $5000, they would probably fix it.

The reason I say "2000" is because thats Nationwide's rule of thumb(for cars 10+ years or older with a value of 5k or less). Ive been in 4 car accidents.....I have a pretty good knowledge...but nontheless, it doesn't matter, he's getting his car fixed.

ok well i have no idea what the shop will do... i might redo the passenger side suspension myself after we get it back... i want them to put rancho shocks on it and not some crap brand... once her insurance guy calls me and looks at the car ill know more... ill talk to whoever the shop is that does the work and see what they say... just out of curiosity what all should i replace on the front suspension for the passenger side after they do the drivers side? thier gonna have to replace the steering gear box for me which means my loose steering will be fixed... lol... so for the suspension i just need to replace the shock, upper and lower control arms right?
