There are less parts in the 5.2L versus the 4.7L, fewer parts = fewer issues.

Not to mention the 5.2L and 5.9L have a lot more years of innovation behind them....All IMHO

But you get a bigger engine with the same power, and less fuel economy. Why?

the newer technology that goes into the 4.7 is the simple answer, new technology does mean more parts however so as hydra said there is more potential for problems, however the 4.7 does have a pretty good reputation made for itself.

+1 Sharp

I feel that if the 4.7 was a bad engine then it wouldn't still be in production.

It's not so there's your answer. It was replaced by the V-6 Pentastar with more HP, more torque and 2 fewer cylinders.

The 5.2/5.9L has 40+ years of production, the 4.7l about 9 years. Add all the plastic parts the 4.7 uses and all in all, it was simply a motor that fit in it's short time in history. One that will soon be forgotten. 318s, 360s, etc are still available in crate and will be running for a long while for any Chrysler-branded hotrodder wanting EFI or Carb and not wanting to step up to the HEMI.

Last I checked the 4.7 was still the standard engine in the Dakota. Naturally the current version has more power.

You are correct however the Dakota is also at end of life as a product.

Any new model isn't getting a 4.7 because of the new, little Pentastar V-6 gives more for less.

V6s are a joke. Its slly to have anything less than 8 cylinders. And Indy, The 4.7 only recently got replaced because the 6ers are now capable of producing more power than ever before. Back when the 5.2 and 5.9 were the thing, they were still making crap for power.

Well I am stuck with this 4.7..... So I have it apart and can't seem to see anything wrong!!!! Here are some photos below. To me the sound has to be the chain rubbing on the guide...but right now I am not sure and don't know what parts to order....
