To make it a 2WD you need to get the tail section from the same transmission you have (46RE) and bolt in the tail section to replace the open end where the T-case goes. You would also need to get the drive line from the donor vehicle.

Now I was just at the local junk yard (Transwest Pick-A-Part) and I asked him the price on a used T-case he said $65 bucks and you must pull it. I say get to a local junk yard where you pull the parts and as them. Find a new T-case with the same number (round seal on the rear 3/4 the way up) and install it, this way you get your 4X4 back.

You could have it rebuilt at your local shop or simply rebuild it yourself with parts from www.sixstates.com or your local transmission parts store. All you need is basic tools, a new chain, and a master bearing/seal kit (about $200 total).

You are on your last leg RIGHT NOW, when the bearings fail you are going to cause major failure and that is going to cost you a hell of a bill not to mention your truck could be uncontrollable and really hurt someone.

i dont think a rebuild is an option for him, it looks like he actually cracked the t-case box and needs that replaced, if he had stopped driving it i would have said the internals were probably recoverable.

Hydra, +1 on pulling a t-case and rebuilding it, for under $300 would be a bargin, and close to the work required to replace the tail section of the tranny, and swap driveshafts. Getting 4x4 back and preserving the trucks re-sale, maybe even bump it a little with a recently rebuilt t-case!
