tholdschool, the mirrors on the truck in your big sig pic do NOT look like the 01+ tow mirros, they are the 98-00 versions

if you want to take a close up of them from the non -glass side ill confirm

This just came in handy for me. I'm going to a junkyard today to get a mirror to replace my now broken passenger side one.

Yay resurrecting old threads!

OldSchool, do you have the pinouts from the 01 and up mirrors and the 99 wiring harness on hand? I just bought a pair of the heated tow mirrors from an 01 Dakota online and will be installing them on my 99. I like the look of the 01+ tow mirrors more than the 98-00 ones.

In order for them to work you would have to cut and spline on end of the connector as the 99-00's used a 6-pin plug and the 01+ used a 8 pin plug.

I got connectors off of a 00 Durango at the junkyard today so that I won't have to cut the ones off of my mirrors. Now I just have to wait for the new mirrors to get here.

I have a '98 Durango...unsure if it's early or late. Is there a way to tell if I have the pre-wiring for heated mirrors with the exception of the rear defrost? I do have rear defrost.

I just don't want to source and order heated mirrors if it's not wired as such and want to check.

Also, will '98 Dodge Ram heated mirrors work the same? I have a '98 Ram with heated mirrors, and I never drive it in the snow and ice...that's what my Durango is for. I can simply swap them if they are the same.

unless oldschool has an easier way you'd probably have to take the door panel off and see if the wires are in the mirror connector.

Heated mirrors did not come on the Durango till 99 so your 98 will not be wired for them... However, it does use the same plug as the heated ones in 99 so it would be as easy as adding a pin and running a wire to you power source.

As for the ram mirror you would have to pull them off to see.. some say they do and others say they don't, i personally have never tired.

I just finished installing my 01 heated mirrors. The wires all switch over to the 99 connector just fine. The only thing that was slightly annoying was that the wiring diagrams appear to show the picture of looking into the male connector on the mirror, but the pins are numbered and laid out for looking into the female connector on the harness or the back of the male connector on the mirror. The other thing that I wanted to point out is that you'll want to grab some mirror connectors off of mirrors at a junkyard because you'll only have 3 pins in your connector if you don't already have heat when you need 5 per connector. Again that's only if your switching the connectors to use 01+ mirrors on a 98-00.
