just thought I'd add this here for anyone that might be doing this in the future because the connectors on the 98-00 mirrors have 2 pins switched between the driver's and passenger's sides

I pulled a set off of a 99 ram and the studs are to short to reach through and bolt in. Other than that they are exactly the same. I just ordered some heated power mirror, gonna have to run a relay to the defroster and pin the old connector, yay 98 lol.

You could always find some bolts/nuts at lowes that are the same size, then tack 2 nuts together and then thread them onto the mirror stud, and the new stud you cut off from a bolt, and then you'd have extended studs. But, I guess if you bought different mirrors you don't need to.

Thats the thing, I would've had to re-stud them because they literally were flush so the 2 nuts would not have worked cause the mirror would hang off the door. It was really weird. Oh well lesson learned.

I suppose you could have just cut the existing stud far enough back to use bolts to attach an extended one to it, but it will be nice to have the correct mirror that'll attach right from the start.

So glad I found this write up I finally have my resurrected 2000 Durango back on the road! Will post pictures of both the 2000 Red Durango and the 2001 Silver Durango very soon...Long story short, wife drove Red for the first time (legally) the other day and LOVES the '00 heated mirrors. They are in my opinion much better than the tiny heated mirrors the '01 has...So, if I understand this thread correctly, the 2000 mirrors should bolt right up to my '01 Durango with no issues...the only issue would be the 6 pin from the donor 2000 would have to be wired to match the 8 pin connector for the 2001, correct? Am I missing anything on this? I know the controls are located in a different place between the 2 model years but once the wiring is matched up, it should be all good, right? Already told the wife that come half price day at pick n pull we going shopping

Thanks again for the write up and for all the help I have received on these forums

Steve

You might be able to find the bigger 01-03 tow mirrors with heat while you're there. No wiring to mess with then, and I think they look better than the older style tow mirrors.

So far, I haven't seen any of the 01-03 towing mirrors in my pick n pull adventures...as the 2nd weekend in January is half price day, I will be looking for both and will report back.

Thanks again.

Finally got around to finishing installing my 2000 Durango heated mirrors on my 2001 Durango SLT+. Wife and are loving the bigger mirrors...it's amazing just how much more visibility there is. I have 2 pic, one with just the passenger mirror replaced and on with both finished. Thanks again for this thread Also, you can see the custom mount for my GPS I made as well in these pictures.
Edit: to the left on the finished project picture you can see Durango #3...#4 is tucked down below...seems your first Durango is a true gateway drug LOL. During the installation process with only the passenger side mirror changed out.
Finished project
