Default My D don't move and rolls in park!!

Well, I was wheelin' in deep sand at the beach in my '01 Durango when out of nowhere I smelled a burnrt rubber smell and could hear, as well as feel, a clicking, ticking sound from my front left wheel. Soon after that, I just stopped moving, I tried to shift from drive 2 to drive 1 and creep out of the sand- no movement. I tried reverse-nothing. My buddy pulls up and said that only the left front tire was spinning as I was trying to get going and he asked me if I was still in 4wd. I was in 4hi like always. He hooked up to me and pulled me about 20 feet in reverse. I was in reverse as he was pulling me. I got unhooked, and I could move under my own power again....not for long.
Got back on the hardball, took it out of 4wd, and drove around for about 4 hrs. There were no problems except that when I would turn I could hear that clicking, popping noise, then it was gone. Time went on and I could smell that burning smell and I pulled over-popped the hood. There was smoke coming from between the back of the motor and the firewall-got down in the front to look under and thats when I noticed that the truck was slowly rolling away from me even though I was in park. I got back in, pressed the brake, put it in drive,2,1,reverse, NO MOVEMENT. I love my Durango guys, please tell me whats wrong before I take it to the shop and they screw me over 8 ways from Sunday!!

Sounds like your transfer box (gear box) burnt up to me.

I know this a dumb question, But is the transfer box in neutral? If its not, I agree transfer box/case.

It's not a dumb question; I'm not very 4wd savey, I just love wheelin'!! How would I determine if my transfer case is in neutral? Is it the awd, 4hi, 4low selector?
