Just a dumb question.. but when I lock my Durango remotely, shouldn't the horn chirp or lights flash or something to tell me that I successfully locked it?

i dont think it does on the early years of the durango. mine doesn't honk or flash the lights. pretty sure thats the way its supposed to be.

 

My 2000 doesn't either... Wish it did!

 

you might be able to turn the option on, i know on the later years its on by default but you can turn it off, check your owners manual

 

There is no chirp or lights on your factory alarm as it sits.

HOWEVER, I have your solution

You need to get the '99 DAKOTA wiring harness and the MOPAR EVS-II PLUS alarm upgrade FOR YOUR FACTORY ALARM.

It is the coolest because it uses your factory setup, your SAME factory keyfob's and adds the following: glass breakage sensor, horn chirp AND lights flash, new sounds for alarm on and alarm off, a starter interrupt with override switch, a new power horn and a flashing dash light.

"But Indy, did you use this setup?" Yes I did in 2006 and have used it ever since. I did not use the dash light however. All else is installed and works great.

Again, I loved it because it added functions to what I already had instead of gutting the factory setup and wiring in something aftermarket.

I used to get close enough to "hear" my locks click so I knew the alarm was set. I can't possible count how many useless cycles on all my locks I put the Durango through just setting the alarm. NEVER AGAIN! I just listen or watch for the headlight flashes. One flash and one chirp is OFF, two flashes and two chirps of the alarm is ON. And the chirps... the sound is exactly what you would get/expect from really nice aftermarket setups.

So.. you would have to put in a whole new wiring harness for the entire truck????
Thanks, but no thanks...I had a hard time finding a wire under the steering wheel for the stereo controls (which I still haven't gotten to work on my Kenwood with the PAC SWI-JACK adapter..grrr..) but I DID find the HORN wire..oops.

 

No. It is a small pigtail. Simple/Easy.

Oh ok. Might check into it someday. I hate having to be really close to the D to know whether my remote locked it or not.

 

why would you walk far enough away from it in the first place where you couldn't hear it locking, before you actually lock it?

 

Honestly, I can be standing almost next to it and not hear it lock...its quiet.
