Default Need some advice on spark plugs...

Next week were are taking our vacation to TN to Dale Hollow and I will be pulling my 24 foot speed boat. I have done every maintenance thing I can think of except for one thing...the "ever questionable" spark plug replacement. Our Durango has everything rebuilt on her but I haven't changed the wires or plugs. I have changed the rotor and cap recently but I was thinking about doing the plugs and wires due to a slight miss occasionally at different speeds and at idle. The motor has 190,000 miles on the block and 40,000 on the rebuild. I have heard NGK, Champion, Bosch, etc, etc, and etc. Any thoughts?

5.9L or 4.7l?

5.9L = Autolite 3924 or the cooler 3923
4.7l = NGK or Champion stocker equivalent.

Never Bosch and learn to use the search feature here. There must be 100 spark plug threads from the past 12 months alone.

Where you going at Dale Hollow? TN or KY side? Historically, my family is all from Celina and the Baptist Ridge area. Family cemetery is there and traced roots back to about 1750 in that general area. Before then, records are hard to come by. My grandpa was the one who left to come to Indiana, but I still have close and distant relatives all over those hills.

with a cap and rotor its a 5.2/5.9 and either way i (and most others) would recommend champion copper plugs, or champion truck plugs

I found this kit from rockauto that i used for my tune up.. came with wires, cap, and rotor w/ brass contacts. threw in some champion copper plugs and it came to about $50 shipped....

Also, used code: 58204614836191 in the "where did you hear about us" block for a 5% discount thanks to samandbensdad for sharing.. think that code is only good till July 31st...

That is one odd looking rotor in that blue kit.

My MSD wires today were $45 and the cap and rotor (NAPA Echlin) were $20. My Autolite 3923s were another $18.

Agreed, it is odd looking..... to be honest i was looking for something cheap to get my D to purrr again. The plugs, wires, cap and rotor all where in the truck when i bought it 7 months ago and im sure the dealer didn't waste time on a tune up (or if they did they used whatever was cheap even if it was not the right parts) so i have no clue how many miles are one them. It was starting to run little rough so and cash is to much of a stranger around here.

These seem to be fitting the bill for now.. runs so much better but, yes i plan to switch to a MSD setup as soon as extra green is found. BTW, when i took the plugs out the tips where all but burnt off... really amazed she even ran...

I've seen rotors like that many times, they are a simple basic design.

Indy<------- Where did ya get the MSD wires for $45, and what type?

MSD StreetFire off the shelf, behind the counter at AutoZone.

They are setup for you to custom cut the lengths to the size you need. Boots are set, you add the coil side boot. Tool to crimp and size comes with the universal kit.

They are nice and 8mm. I just replaced my 5 year old Magnecor's Electrosports with the StreetFires this weekend and sized them for my specific application. I have some side mounted looms that cover the entire wire. My 5.9 looks like a HEMI with only boots and no wires now. The Magnecors were too short to make them work.
