Default Transfer case switch ?

OK experts,

I am having trouble finding the correct transfer case switch for my 1998 Durango SLT 5.2 with the NV231HD transfer case.

Rock Auto only showed one switch, so I ordered it; went to put it in today and it's the wrong one. The switch connector doesn't match so I didn't even try and replace it.

I checked US Auto Parts and they also show only one part number.

Both sites show the part a Dorman part # RB600551, replacing OE part #J8134473.

However, since that item doesn't work, there must be a different switch used on my truck.

Any ideas on how I can find the correct part number (would it be in the service manual?) and where I can get the right one?

Thanks all!

checking in the parts manual from dodge the nv231 t-case DOES use part J8134473

for the nv 242 the part number is 56006756

parts manual can be found in the FAQ thread under the miscellaneous documents link or for 98 click this link http://www.mediafire.com/?7f5z6jgf71ki6az

Look at the back of the T-case about 3/4 the way up and there will be a round lable that accuratlly displays what T-case installed. Then get a switch for it.

Default It is

the 231HD case, I think I might be confusing switches. I found what I thought was the transfer case switch but I think that's the speed sensor switch. Not sure why but I'm not seeing any switch at all on the transfer case itself??

Look at the front and rear main drive shafts. Where they join up in the center of the vehicle is the Transfer Case. Now look on the drivers side and find in the center toward the front is some linkage going into the T-case. This linkage goes to the center floor shifter. Now just above where the linkage goes into the T-case the sensor is there (like 2 inches up).

what do you mean by switch? 98 is a mechanical shift for 4x4.

When you engage the 4X4 on the manual shift T-case there is a eletrical "Indicator Switch" that is engaged by the Range Lever when you change positions using the manual lever. Then the output of this switch iluminates the position light in the instrument cluster to tell the driver what position he is in, example (4PT or 4FT).
