Question OverDrive switch not working

so my overdrive button on my shifter has quit working and im curious how to fix it... if there's an easy fix for it or if its an expensive fix. even if i can do something as simple as just wiring in my own bypass switch or if i need to replace the whole shift assembly or if its something as simple as a fuse. anyhow any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Very easy,

There is a small black plastic ring on the end of the switch. Pop it off while holding the button so it don't pop out. Grasp the button and pull it out to get to the switch. Go to a junk yard or what ever and get a new switch.

Check the switch while it's out.

if you can find a small enough momentary switch i dont see any reason why not as long as all the wiring is intact

you just need to know a couple of things
1) momentary switch (we already know this part, you push the button to open or close the switch and when you release the button it returns to its normal position)
2) normally open or normally closed, i believe the OD button sends a pulse to the pcm so that means it is normally open but when you get the switch out you could check that easy enough w/ an ohm meter

You are supposed to press and hold that button for about 2-3 seconds to engage and dis-engage the Over Drive. If your not holding it then that's the problem. My truck takes like 3 seconds, where my D took like 1 second, same switch.

I would just put the correct switch back in and not even go there.

maybe they changed it for the later part of gen 1 but mine is a tap and go, just tap it and it will engage/disengage OD, no holding necessary.
