Default 2000 Durango...Need help to identify this problem if any

This plate right after the oil drain plug is leaking. It is attached to the transmission and i can in inside of it if i pull on it. The leak isnt bad at all actually and my trans fluid is still full. I have no check engin light on and the truck runs good. Just wondering if anyone can help me better understand what purpose this plate serves, and if it needs a fix.

you need to tell us which engine and transmission you have in that truck

based on the picture id say 5.2 or 5.9 but confirmation would be nice,

also what color is the fluid thats leaking out? and how much is it? can you wipe it off with a rag, could you put a pan unde rit when its parked. any information you might have could help us

It's called a Transmission Dust Cover. Basically it covers an access to the torque converter for observation of it and the fly wheel.

There is a couple of things it could be,

1. A rear main seal (engine) if it is engine oil.
2. An input seal (trans) if it is trans fluid.
3. Coolant if there is a freeze plug leaking.

Now you also have the occasional gasket seepage like valve covers.

I have always seen a drip or 2 on it but I don't drip while driving (no oil spray), no oil drips under the truck, and all the fluids are always full.

Mine sweats there too...

When I first got the truck, I took a bunch of old t-shirts and completely cleaned the underside of the truck, just so I could keep an eye on everything. (I mainly did this to discover my transmission pan gasket leak).

Anyways, like I said, mine is wet in that area as well... but it's never dripping.

Thanks for the help but its a 5.9 and its leaking trans fluid (red). but not very much like a half dollar size spot overnight. I checked the fluids and everything seems to be ok... i also believe i have a leak on the trans fluid pan because it also collects right under that but not much also...maybe i just need to change the gasket

Then most likely it's just the pan gasket. Have the pan lowered, filter replaced, bands adjusted, gasket replaced, and refill with ATF+4 tans fluid. This might take care of the issue and add longevity to your trans.
