01 4x4 Problem.
I just got a 2001 Durango 4.7 4x4, Fully loaded leather all the fancy stuff, as a project . Everything works just fine cold ac, rebuilt engine really nice except the 4x4 wont engage . From what i have been reading I think its the transfer case control module. Is there any way to test this? The fuse under the hood is good. When I turn the switch nothing happens at all. I am trying to make a cheap rig to pull my quads out on the trails without throwing alot of money at it at once.
Any help or input is appreciated. Thanks

Get under it and pull the harness off the transfer case shift motor and look for corrosion. Clean and wiggle it and see if it will engage.
Also, they like to engage while slightly moving about 1 or 2 mph forward.

The way it works is there is a power pulse that turns the shift motor when actuated, then the power turns off. You should again take the harness off and play with it a little and plug it back in. You can test for the power pulse but it takes 2 people because one has to be under the truck while someone hits the shift button, then you can see the spike on a multi-meter.
If everything is working and your sure there is power getting to the sift motor then it could be a bad shift motor. Now it also could be a bad TCCM, and in that case it should be up on the left side of the steering column under the dash and is blue in color, but they are a PITA to get to. You could pull one from a same like year and engine truck from a junk yard if you need to.

Is this where a can of electrical contact cleaner would be of use?? i personally never used it but, im told it does not really help much.
