Exclamation Improving Gas mileage in my Durango 2000

I have a 5.9 R/T AWD 4x4 with around 167k on it
Gear 3.92 33's off road tires

When first bought it I was getting no more than 9 x gallon
Stock engine
235/R15 tires

I did the following upgrades;

1_ New spark plugs ( regular spark plugs nothing fancy)
2_ New spark plugs wires ( regular )
3_ Spectre Air Filter ( from Autozone , same result as KN )
4_ Cold Air intake Home made( 90 degree elbow + some unions)
5_Double fan air intake ( this really makes the difference with the Air Intake
6_ Temp Chip ( I remove the original IAT sensor and add this one, no side effects with the computer at all )
7_Air filter to avoid water condensation

Now I am getting more Hp and more gas mileage
* Around 14.5 x gallon freeway and street ( no AC on)
*Street driving only 11 x gallon

if you consider my truck is a AWD I think is fare enough, my truck feels so light and accelerates pretty quick.

I will post the pictures so can see the actual intake configuration.

+1 for 6 being snake oil. Its a gimmick, get your money back if possible.

Another good idea is to fix the plenum issue on the 5.9L V8s. They all had it, yours definitely does at 167k unless a previous owner fixed it. Take a gander at the "End all" plenum thread at the top of the 2nd Gen Ram homepage. Lots of good info. Fixing that will not only possibly net you more power and one or more MPGs, but will also prevent premature failure of your catalytic converter and oxygen sensors.

I know I have a 2001 Ram, but its the same 5.9L V8 engine.

I did the following (on top of regular maintenance, like synthetic fluids and spark plugs):
-High flow catalytic converter and performance muffler
-New pre-cat oxygen sensor (the only one that matters when it comes to engine management)
-Volant CAI
-Electric Fans (dual)

And then I killed my mileage with:
-SCT tuned for 93 octane gas

I get about 11-12 in town and 14 on the highway with the performance tune. I tried the 87 economy tune once... for five minutes. Hated it compared to the power boost I get from the performance tune, so turned it back.

ive always heard that number five was a hoax... that adding a couple fan blades between the air intake the the airhat doesn't really do anything... but sound cool

i agree with you on that one srch, if anything i would expect it to slow down the air flow and if it doesnt it most definitely DOES make it more turbulent when you would prefer a nice smooth flow

Although the dual electric cooling fans work pretty good.
