Angry Is it possible to leave the dash in?

I have a 98 durango and the door that controls air flow is not moving or stuck... I am wanting to get it working since I'm in AZ and I just got my AC charged yesterday... Is it possible to get to this door to check it out without removing the dash? Also, is it vacuum powered or electrical? Thanks

98 is vacuum actuated, you could have a broken/leaking vacuum line, are the vents stuck on defrost? if so id start looking for a busted vacuum line

Check the main vacuum line coming off the front of the throttle body as they like to crack there from the heat. Then follow the little hard black vacuum line all the way into the cab through the heater core line grommets then to the switch. Look for leaks.

There is also 2 check valves and one might be leaking. One is in the dash and the other is on the brake booster.

Question no blend door movement - '01 4.7 SLT - dual air

Would the '01 have the same vac. line from the TB? I've ck'd the vlv @ the booster and line into the cab (mity-vac and gauge) and they seem OK.
My cd manual says it's all vac operated, but doesn't mention that line: All-Data says it's electrical (huh?)
155K, and the most trouble free vehicle we ever bought - 'til now.

98-00 was vacuum actuated
01-03 was electrically actuated

Red face

O.K., thanks for that info.
A little more I found out about the truck this evening:
Rear air blows cool - not cold ~ 68*F
Front blows HOT any time the front fan control is above low speed.
All of the blend door functions seem to work, defrost to vent to floor etc.
I did replace the fan motor speed pcb during the winter (2nd time since new), but fan operates in all ranges.
Compressor runs normally - 40 psig low / 200 psig high.
So... being basically a blue oval kinda guy, wtf do I look for now?

Mike, I guess I don't get what your trying to do??????

Are you trying to use the A/C and it blows out HOT air, or are you trying to use the heater. Same with the back one??????

Please explain yourself better. Here in the computer world we are not there and so you have to fully and completely describe the issue you are having. Also concitering this thread is for a 1998 Durango, you should start a new thread and fully explain the issues you are having this way we can help you personally verses putting in a lot of different and usless information in a thread descipted for a 1998 model.

PS<------ It's actually easier if you explain things like a second grader so we can picture what you are seeing and hearing.

1: I'm not Mike
2: It may seem that I tried to hijack the thread, but this is the 1st gen '98 - '03 forum.
3: I'm SAE and MAC certified in air conditioning, but have never had to deal with this particular vehicle before. I retired right around its build date.

The dash has to come out - I'll deal with it, and not bother dealing with a **** head like you again.
