Default Engine issue, need advice

I have 1999 Dodge Durango (5.2) and about a month ago I had been hearing a rattling sound coming from the engine whenever I’m pressing the gas and it goes over 55mph. I didn’t think much of it because it was only happening every now and then and if I let off the gas some the sound would go away. Well, recently my wife was driving the car and after she stopped to pay the toll when she was coming off the freeway, the car wouldn’t move when she pressed the gas. According to her she said she felt nothing when she pressed the gas and hadn’t heard any knocking sound prior to that. Only that the engine light came on. After it happened, the engine was still running so she turned it off since the car wouldn’t move. Since then, the engine hasn’t started back up, it turns over but refuses to crank up. I have very limited funds so I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it to fix.

Do you think the engine is locked up?

Did the motor rev up like it was trying to move or did it just not do anything?

+1 on the fuel pressure, you should also be able to hear it prime when you turn the key on
