2000 Dodge Durango stays in 4th 45RFE trans
I bought this Durango used about 2 weeks ago. It sat for a few weeks before I bought it. The stupid thing runs flawlessly, until it shifts into fourth gear, then my dash lights up atleast 4 different errors, and it won't downshift until I shut her down for a few minutes, then it's like it reboots, and runs fine until 4th again. My errors are (I think P0700) 4C Hydraulic Pressure Switch. Then 1,2, and 3 cylinders misfire. Also, the battery and temp gauges on the dash drop to nothing and i get check gauges light. Sometimes it gives me other errors as well when I hit 4th, but these ones are every time. I tried changing the fluid and filters with no luck, but I didn't do a full fluid flush My thought on the situation is 1 of the computers are fried. or, maybe all the computers are fried. It's a 45RFE transmission on a 4.7liter. Does anyone know how to test the 4C switch, or how to test the trans computer? I've got megohm meters, and whatever meter I probably need, I just need to know where to stick em. Any other thoughts on what the problem could be? Any help is awesome. I'm not a mechanic so type slow please...

It wasn't p0700, it was P1727 that I get. I tried removing all connectors and spraying them out with electronics cleaner with no luck. I tried raising the Trans fluid level a little bit, all that did was give me an extra error, (P0734 4th Gear ratio incorrect.) Now I'll have to drop the pan to lower the fluid... I knew it was a stupid idea before I did it... Anyway, anyone else know what could be going on? I'm really clueless... I'd like to test this 4C switch if possible.
we dont have any explanation for p1727, https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ine-light.html
and i dont personally know how to check the switch, however if you PM user Master Tech he is our local transmission expert and he will be better able to help you

I did find this Sharps:
Sounds like to me the TCM is shorting out causing the other issues. I would replace it first.
DTC P1727 - 4c hydraulic pressure switch circuit- this is set if pressure switch doesn't close on command from the TCM(transmission control module)
There are wide ranging possible causes:
In order to diagnose the exact problem, you will need a diagnostic scan tool with transmission diagnostic capability. You will also need a transmission simulator to hook up to trans in order to test.
Without these REQUIRED equipment, about all you can check is for debris in the transmission pan, and ensuring that fluid level is correct. After that, the only way to determine which of the many reasons for this code being set is with use of above mentioned equipment. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of today's vehicles, including their multiple on-board computers, there are instances when the only way to properly diagnose a problem correctly is with a diagnostic scanner. Without this, all you can do is replace parts in hope of repairing problem.
There are wide ranging possible causes:
- open in trans control relay output circuit
- intermittent wiring or connector problems
- internal transmission problem(4th clutch pressure plate)
- excessive debris in transmission pan
- incorrect fluid level
- 4th clutch pressure switch circuit shorted to voltage
- faulty line pressure sensor
- poor line pressure sensor connection
- 5-volt supply open or shorted to ground
- Faulty TCM

Symptom:
P1727-4C HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST FAILURE
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P1727-4C HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST FAILURE
When Monitored: In any forward gear with engine speed above 1000 RPM shortly after
a shift and every minute thereafter.
Set Condition: After a shift into a forward gear, with engine speed > 1000 RPM, the TCM
momentarily turns on element pressure to the clutch ckts that don’t have pressure to
identify the correct pressure sw closes. If the pressure sw does not close 2 times the code
sets
POSSIBLE CAUSES
INTERMITTENT WIRING & CONNECTORS
INCORRECT FLUID LEVEL
POOR LPS CONNECTION
RELATED SPEED RATIO AND/OR PRESSURE SWITCH DTC’SS PRESENT
4C PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT OPEN
4C PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
LINE PRESSURE SENSOR
5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT OPEN
RELATED LINE PRESSURE DTC’S PRESENT
4C PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT SHORT TO VOLTAGE
5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
TRANSMISSION RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN
TCM (NO 5 VOLTS LOW LINE PRESSURE SENSOR)
EXCESSIVE DEBRIS IN OIL PAN
INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM - 4C PRESSURE TEST
TCM (4C PRESSURE SWITCH)
Remove the pan and inspect the side plate of the valve body, since you have a code for gear ratio error in 4th. The problem maybe just a valve body. But as hydra had said, you do need a scanner diagnose the problem. I do have the PDF file if you need it. Just send me a pm with your email address.
