I do not think the 2000 and 2001 will be the same. Starting with 2001 models, they have a brand new interior re-design. I'll just call this 2nd generation interior on a 1st generation durango.

 

Very good advice. I had the same problem with AC parts when I did my wifes turbo beetle. The parts guy gave me a used expansion valve. I stood there and opened the sealed box up in front of him and the expansion valve was full of PAG oil. I am not against service people but I have learnt to question everything from parts to outrageous repair quotes. A $1500 quote from VW cost me $165.00 in parts to do the job myself. They said it was the compressor and I said it was the expansion valve. Has anyone tried to argue with a service tech? I thought this guy was going to explode. I don't know if this is standard practice but I checked the condition of the compressor by running it and then watching the Delta Pressure once it is turned off. If it equalizes too fast there is internal damage to the compressor. If it takes some time to equalize (high side and low side) then things are probably OK. Ofcourse I did all the normal checks with it running too.

I just replaced my heatercore last week. and now my floor is still wet and I still smell coolant.[:@] the job wasnt that bad, it took me all weekend just to do it. when ever I got angry I would just walk away. I paid $75 for my heater core. I inpsected it, it was brand new! and I think it's leaking again.

I drove it for most of the summer just having to bypass the heater core cause I really didnt need it. but now it's starting to get cold and heat would be nice. im gonna try and vacuum the floor and get it as dry as possible to see if it comes back.

Where was the damage on your original heater core? Did you perform a pressurized air leak test before you installed the new one?
