Default Rock Sliders

so im working on designing parts for our durangos that are aimed at the offroad crowd. dont know how many people would like them or not. im working on getting plans built for a steel winch bumper and im also working on full skid plating and rock sliders.

so far ive got the rock sliders designed roughly. until i get time to actually throw them together with some pvc or something to check sizing and frame stuff but its the general idea. here's some pictures of the sliders.

let me know what you all think. ill put up the bumper once i get it finished. the brackets are 1/4" steel with 3 mounting bolt holes. the tubing is1.5" diameter for the outside and braces and the inner tubes are 1" diameter. any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. im open to anyone throwing out any tips as well.

Srch

Looking good, you should produce them or something. Can't wait to see the bumper design!

yeah... i want to... ive always loved doing stuff with my hands and on cars... dads an engineer... im an emt working toward paramedic so this is more of a hobby... once i save some money im gonna try and make a plastic pvc mockup of them and check the fit and actual angles and such. spacing and clearance. make sure the cross members are the right length and in the correct position.

got a friend going over the bumper design trying to produce a 3d model and make sure all the dimensions are correct.

2 things

1) what software are you using for this (im a mechanical engineering student, graduating in may)??

2) are you lining up the mounts with holes that already exist in the frame (for running boards i believe) or will you have to drill the frame to mount them?

was hoping you would chime in sharp im using solidworks. and the frame would need to be drilled for the holes. i did not see any preexisting holes in the frame when i looked at it.

which version of solidworks? i get the newest version every year from school (ill be reinstalling it before september starts) so if you need help with it let me know, after i get it reinstalled (not till i get to school and have the install server available) id be willing to take a look at the models on my machine and either tweak them or give you advice/pointers on making the designs better.

also i went out and checked my truck, it does have some holes in the frame, but not enough for all of the mounts in that image, i would try to use as many of those as possible if it were me doing it, (i also noticed that the running boards are mounted to the body NOT the frame WTF?!?!?!?!!!, and yes these are factory installed running boards)

nice... ive been using 2010. i can email you my models and the assembly i made... the assembly is kinda hokey... im not real good in solidworks i just tinker and can do some pretty basic stuff... i can do autocad better in only 2d. ill have to look at my truck again and see the holes. cause yeah if there are some holes then that makes less to be drilled.

wait the running boards are mounted to the body? wow... thats strange... would have thought they would be on the frame... huh...

i also know that the truck frame doesn't go straight back so ill have to get those distances as well... only so much i can measure without help lol...

Yes,any and all the running boards are garbage mounts, haha.
Just some pointers
The rango sills have have little play to cover as the door hangs low so heavy archs will either be too low or door bangers
Frame flex will need to be accounted for so try not to be too close to the body
Box is also your freind...
