Just got over similar problem. Had dealer do an AC diagnosis while I was getting a promo oil change. Found a leak in the evaporator !!

Dealer wanted $1500 to repair. Needed Evaporator, Dryer, Expansion Valve. The flat rate book allowed between 5 and 8 hours. There are a few posts that detail the job---it is NOT a DIY job--the complete dash and steering column need removed !! There is a bunck stuff under hood that needs removed---dryeris under battery, evaporator refrigerant lines connect at firewall so a lor stuff on upper firewall needs removed.

Two Independant shops bid $1200. one independant shop refude the job--LOL

I got really lucky--friends Dad was in town and he was a Dodge AC tech for 15 years. Parts cost from Cold Air Dist here was $235---Discount Auotparts wanted $375 for parts. Freon was most expensive item on parts list !!!

I watched him do the job---it was not pretty. Took the guy from 730AM to 300PM to remove and replace everything--another hour to pull vacuum and make sure no other leaks in lines or rear evaporator. Took another hour to add oil and feon and final test.

I wouldn't touch that job as DIY after watching a pro do it. Jujst hop hard and long. Find a way to buy parts from a commercial AC house that supplies dealers and indpendant shops to save significant $$ and then find an tech that will work on the side is my suggestion. My total cost was $600 !!
