Default Transmission fluid, help!

As some of you know my truck leaks everything! Its a 1999 Dodge Durango SLT V8 Magnum $X$ with 240,000 miles and there is transmission fluid covering the entire transfercase and is a drip were it conects to the transmission. The manual calls for Mopar ATF+3 Automatic transmission fluid. But i have no idea were to buy it at i went to advanced auto parts and they had never even heard of mopar! WTH? (must of never heard of a Dodge eather) So where can i get it? Or what is equivilent to Mopar ATF+3 thats not going to reduce the life of my transmission?

sssshhh its never been changed....

I thought it was my transfercase leaking so i changed that with Dextron III Automatic transmission fluid which is what the manual called for. It said I could also use the Mopar ATF+3 but obviously its very rare to come by.
Thanks

Dodge changed the spec to ATF+4 a while ago. Use Valvoline or Mopar ATF+4.

Yes we have........LOL........And our opinions very on it.

However Dodge did issue the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) calling for it's use in ATF+3 lubricated vehicals. TSB 21-010-06 http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2006/21-010-06.htm

Regardless, do not use Fully Synthetic ATF+4 in yours particular where it is leaking, it will leak more. The problem you have is that you have a leak at the marriage ring site as you have stated between the t-case and the trans. There is a weep hole between the two that lets it drip out to tell you if there is a bad gasket there.

It is either the transmission output seal or the transfer case input seal that is leaking. You have to pull the transfer case and you replace both seals to fix the problem. While you have it out I would make a gasket and fill the weep hole in so it won't weep out of the hole. There is a DIY write up in the 2nd generation Ram section. I did this very thing just a few months ago.

Dextron III Automatic transmission fluid is NOT to be used in the transmission in our trucks!!!! Now in the T-case is different, I know the manual does state you can.

It's perfectly fine to use ATF+4 in your T-case, in fact it supersedes ATF+3. If yours is leaking you should fix the leak and you should be just fine. I don't believe you can buy ATF+3 anymore anyways. I recommend you use Valvoline ATF+4 Fully Synthetic.
