Default Optima Battery - is it all that?

Just curious if anyone has experience with these 'Optima Batteries'?

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...1729602530____

They are about twice the cost of the standard batteries, but seem to have some really splendid reviews.

Anyone have anything good/bad to say about them? When it comes to a battery; and the possibility of needing a jump on a day when it's 20 below - I'll spend a little extra $$$..

I have heard good things from people about the optima. I have a caterpillar (yes the heavy equipment company) and it has done very well. My dad has had the same cat battery for 9 yrs.

DO NOT BUY THIS BATTERY!!! Yes, they used to be a kick a$$ battery but the company sold to Johnson Controls who moved the entire operation to Mexico and the batteries coming out of there are sh*t.

The Jeep forums are full of failure stories. I bought one as a second battery for my truck just over a year ago, used it to power my small trolling motor twice on my little pond boat and it won't take a charge now!

My local Sam's club has stopped carrying them due to excessive returns as well...

Wow, I didn't realize they had become s*** lately. Cat batteries I believe have a 4 year warranty, I'd have to go look at mine to confirm.

Thanks for the replies Any other recommendations - or comments on topdog's recommendation on the duralast gold?

The battery I have is still working ok, but it didn't hold as much of a charge as it should have, plus it doesn't fit the bracket and I suspect it's a bit smaller than it should be, so I want to get a good one.

Never ran a red top, i run yellow. Never ran into issues and ive put three through hell. I let a buddy use the first as a spare for his inverter while camping and he incorrectly charged it and caused it to leak. My other two still run great after running them dead multiple times. I always choose sealed type and the largest size for different mounting app's/capacity/ and shock resistance.

I am very happy with the Duralast Gold in my D. Great price, great warranty and starts on the first bump here in Indianapolis during the winter.

All I buy is Duralast Gold!!!

I always get the largest one I can fit in my rigs and they have never let me down. Not to mention the warranties are out of this world with a 8 year warranty. 3 year free replacement and 5 year pro-rated for a total of 8 years!

I see Duralast is supposed to have a new dry cell, don't know anyone that has tried it though.
