Default Electrical Fire

This morning my son went to pull his Durango out of the garage to go to school to find an electrical type burning smell and smoke coming from the drivers side under the bottom of the dash. When i got home i looked around and found what look like a big grey connection/junction box had melted out and was basically about to burst into flames. It mounts on a bracket near the diagnostic input see pic below. Only thing is i cant find out what the box is called ot a part number for it. The grey lid has several numbers on it 183AB, 16238AA, T-BWI 1021EZ604 and P65649183AB.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

That there is the main plug where all there interior wires come in though the firewall.. there is suppost to be a white cover over the wires... Not 100% on dodge but, on past vehicles i owned if that was damaged you had to replace the whole wire harness... i guess you could cut can splice if you wanted but, that spells an electrial nightmare to me...

yeah... i would replace the whole wire harness... go to a junk yard or something... you could splice in the new part for what was burned just make sure you match the wires and use good quality solder and some good heavy duty heat shrink.

Thanks guys, i found the junction box in my service manual and the are 74 wire in and out. Only thing is to replace the part i would have to replace the interior harness and the exterior, they are both damaged.

How does it go through the fire wall and will i have to remove the dash?

Thanks

Yeah there is a short, most likely at the junction box. Glad no one was hurt.

Never did it on a dodge before but, my guess is it can't be too hard... probably held in there by a gromet or some bolts and a gromet...

Also, if i where you i would go ahead and replace the whole harness as its a fact that there is a short somewhere and it seems that it be easier to replace than try to search it out...

After finding that you probably should have removed your belongings and let it fry......LMFAO......You would have ended up getting a new one and still have your crap.....

Anyway, glad nobody got hurt and hope you get it back going.

I would also really recommend replacing the entire harness and not splicing. I guarantee there is a short in one or more places somewhere else in the one you have.
