Welcome to DF
Durango doesn't have a 5 speed manual transmission in the USA. So if you wanted to replace the transmission you have now, You need to get a transmission from another model. Maybe a Ram or Dakota pickup. And may also need to replace the brake assy under the dash and wire harness and controller.

Being that the Durango and Dakota are similar, I'm surprised that no one has tried this yet.

i just got 2003 durango slt with totaly broken automatic transmission, and i has 5.9 in it and not 4.7 , i want to swap it to manual , already got a very good and clean AX15 and a manual flywheel plate from Ram 1996 also got the salave and master cylinder and the clutch and brake padles from the 1995 Dakota 5.9 .
my question is durango has holes for the clutch cylinder and for the transmission are there any marks on where i shoud cut in the cab for the trans stick?

Personally I think a built up 46re would be better than doing a conversion.

4x4 360 if you are doing swap from auto to manual (durango) you really must stick around and Dakota models up to 02 if you have 5.9 because they have the Asian AX15 5 speed manual transmission , i have done this swap on my grand cherokee (97) and i just got 2003 durango and i am working on all parts needed plan .... the padles will come from Dak and it will fit just right just a matter of time , you will have to get the hock base for the clutch cylinder from the Dak , manual fly wheel can com from any dodge v8 92 up if yours is 4.7 then NV3500 is a very good choice , fly wheel can come from any 2003 up Dakota ... you may also use the NV3500 on the 5.9 it will bolt except the upper bolt (only one ) and you can still use the dodge fly wheel which comes factory design for the crank position sensor.

I don't think you are going to "need" the Dakota PCM because if you unplug the automatic trans on a 42-46RE they won't cause a CEL, but of course the transmission won't shift automatic either. So with that said, the PCM in your Durango should be fine to run as a manual, at least in my opinion.

I would much rather have a manual verses an automatic any day.

Default PCM 0n 2003 need not change.

yes (hydrashocker) i will not need the PCM from Dakota, i just made a trial start today to my durango with the dodge v8 fly wheel and the AX15 bellhousing (only the front part of the transmission and kept it running for over 45 min it sounded great, i think i will finish this converson as soon i got time the 10 days ......i can not waite to roll it over the Arabian desert sands ,,,,, by the way this is a very beautifull truck ...

I know a guy who did this with the 318. Was a very smooth conversion. He found a 98 Dakota and basically swapped it all out in a few days. He uses his D to plow, and around here, having the ability to drop down quick is a good thing.
