Default Sputtering problem from time to time. Help!!

I have a 2000 Durango 5.9l 4x4. Every so often when i drive it it sputters and wants to turn off. It does not happen often but when it does its pretty annoying. I cant seem to find the problem, it started to sputter this morning when i turned it on only when i pushed on the gas. It seemed like it didnt want to move. If anyone has any insight on this problem please do not hesitate to let me know. Also typically after it sputters after a drive it will die if i do not keep the rpms up.

Mine does the same thing every now and then, but its only if it Rains and I dont drive it for a day.. The next time I drive it, it starts fine but when I start driving it shakes and sputters as if it has a bad miss. But after driving for about 10 minutes everything is back to normal and it doesnt do it any more. (Until the next time it rains) Im going to change my cap n rotor, plugs and wires soon to hopefully fix the issue.

How long has it been since the throttle body and IAC was cleaned? if its been awhile i would reccomend doing that... here is a DYI on how to do it...

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...ttle-body.html

Also, i would test the throttle position sensor.. heres a video how, its for the ram but, it should be the same..

and finally i would have the battery load tested... a weak battery could cause many wired issues..

Hope this helps...

If it is related to moisture/rain, it is usually a ignition problem. Probably need new wires and/or cap & rotor. There is a Dodge bulletin about this with recommended new retainers, wire loom covers and routing.

My durango would do the exact same thing it would sputter while driving and if you hit the gas it would not speed up and acted like it was going to shut off. I ran a can of seafoam in the tank and after that tank of gas it was fixed it never sputtered again for the next few months, it sputtered one time then i ran another can of seafoam and it hasnt done it since and that was back in February or March.

+1... I would start with the ignition coil.

Also could be a crank shaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor. Also try some better fuel octane and a different station. Finally, check the fuel pressure at the rail at full operational temp and while running at curb idle. I like to see it above 50 psi. Also rev the motor and see if it falls.

When this happens on the 4.7L motor and it is usually the camshaft position sensor.
