P0601 - Hesitation/Surging with acceleration?
Hey, how is it going guys. I have a 99 Durango 5.2 2wd that has a P0601 trouble code. I'm aware of what the code is and I have a new PCM on the way as we speak, but I can't find much information on the symptoms of a faulty PCM. From what I have read, most people don't notice any problems at all other than a no-start. Well, that's not the case in my situation.
Now, I'm having a problem and I'm not sure if it is related to the faulty PCM.
The Durango purrs like a kitten and has a good idle, but once I hit about 20 miles per hour it starts to surge/hesitate like the transmission was switching back and forth from first to second gear. Also, sometimes the transmission doesn't shift even after several seconds at high rpm.
Is this a symptom of a faulty PCM or a completely different issue?

however if i were you i would wait for the new PCM to come in and see if that takes care of it, if not then check the TPS and IAC motors, and clean up the tb really good.
P.S. ill move this thread for you this time.

Okay, well I got the used PCM I ordered. I installed it and it opened up a new can of worms. The Durango started but stalled the first two times I put it in reverse. I finally got it out of the driveway and it drove fine for 1 mile and then the engine shut off. I couldn't get it started again. I noticed a no bus error in the odometer. Although the old PCM was displaying a check engine light and giving me transmission problems, I didn't get a no bus error.
So, is this a good indication that the used PCM I bought is malfunctioning as well?

check that the connections are tight on the new pcm, but if that doesnt take care of it, then yes you probably got a bad unit, the seller should ship you a new one at no additional cost to you
Thanks, I appreciate the input. The seller is trying to say that the PCM needs my exact VIN and mileage in order to operate correctly and I understand that that isn't the case. It has a VIN in it which should be sufficient. I went by the dealer and they won't reprogram a PCM with a VIN that doesn't match the vehicle. I'm not sure if that is just their policy or if this is a common occurrence.

Just give them your VIN and mileage so the perameters are set, what is so hard with that?
Why should they program PCM's with an incorrect VIN number? That's like opening up a law suite, not to mention what "Correct" work could they do if it doesn't match!
