my 99 durango sometimes dies and wont restart. no fire and can't hear the fuel pump running. have checked all relays and swapped a few around no luck. did notice that when it does not start that the fuel gauge will not register. after cycling the key swicth several times the fuel gauge registers and the damn thing will start. have thought about the crank sensor but with the fuel guage not registering doubt that is the problem. it don't die going down the hiway but does cut out and the check engine light comes on but takes off right away. pretty darned annoying. any ideas??????

 

I am not 100% sure, but I think it might be you pump. You will have better luck in the durango section, I am gonna move the post there.

 

Would like to blame the pump and move on....but I have checked the pump and it tests out fine.

 

sounds like ours it would die (especially when in line at a drive thru). took it to dealer said it could be many things started one by one till we found ours was the computer over heating runs great after the computer was replaced
