+1 take him with you!

They in fact didn't use a tube bender and just used their thumb......OMG!.......You need to take it back and make them do it right or refund!

There is a factory piece that goes from one end to the other. It is pre-bent, runs along the front frame support down low and clips in along the way very easily. I replaced that line myself once.

I don't know that taking my son is a great idea, I might have to worry about bail money if I did. I have thought about this and have decided to take a form to the manager that reads something to the effect that he, and the shop, will assume 100% of the responsibility if I am involved in any accident where the brakes were a factor in cause. Of course, I know they won't sign it, in which case I will give them the option to fix it right or to refund the amount of money that went to pay for the brake lines and labor. Then I will just take it somewhere else.

I really don't want them touching my vehicle after this, so I think I will push for the refund. This is part of the problem in living in a small town, it is really hard to find a good mechanic that is trust worthy.

I think I will also take it by the DMV office and let one of the inspectors there take a look at it. I don't want to be a trouble maker but this really does **** me off to no end.

Live and learn I guess....

That statement is probably the best thing to do indeed.

That's what i would do.. that job would not pass inspection here or should it pass anywhere. If your state is like ours, that shop will have hefty fines and will be in the states radar by the end of the week... anymore shabby work like that out of there and they would shut em down.

You want it fixed. It might make you feel better if they assume responsibility for your injury or death, but it won't bring you back.
You might consider getting a written estimate from the dealer to correct it, then let them know they can either pay that amount or speak with your attorney. You stated that they did this without your approval...

The reason why you dont want your brake lines anywhere near heat is brake fluid has a boiling point, once that point is reached it looses its vescosity and becomes real thin and useless. No brake fluid= no brakes. I am a shade tree mechanic and never buy the prebent lines and mine look 100 times better then that. I always stay as close to the factory routing as possible and sometimes I find a better route thats more out of the way.
I agree 100% to take it to the dealer and get an estimate then bring that to the shop that wrecked your lines and have them pay for the repairs. If they refuse go to the Better Business Buruea and complain, also the State Attorney General has poeple that handle shady business practices. Im not sure what your inspections are like where you live but here in NH if a garage does crap work and someone else inspects it, the garage that did the inspection can call the state and the oter garage will be invetsigated. They were just being lazy and charging $6.95 for a friggin screw, better be made out of gold. Stick it to them. They have endangered you, your family, and who ever is around when that fails

+5 or whatever we are on, this is not only a proper repair issue but a safety issue. That shop should be ashamed.

Yup,NEVER ROUTE A BRAKE LINE HIGHER THAN THE MASTER CYLINDER.They route them down so the bleeding process isn't a nightmare....They definately thumb bent the lines, and they didn't even by the coated lines...the guys here(edit, like +6 by now)have it...take it back and bring your son....I'm confused about the condensed it to 3 lines thing...did they only do 3 lines or did they combine 2 of them? If they did that something isn't going to be right and you have an ABS to consider.Maybe I have a different work ethic but you don't send people out on the streets with a "That was good enough" brake repair. It endangers you(which is just plain disrespectful)and everyone around you when you need to stop.....I would seek out a better shop in the future and have them look at this repair after you make them get it right....Also,I speak from experience. I'm a factory trained Ford Heavy Line Tech and I have factory certs with Mercruizer,Mercury Marine and Suzuki Outboard....NOT bragging,I just know they'll try to discredit any info you get here and You are chatting with competent people,The guys here know their stuff....
